Veterans' Preference
In accordance with Section 55A-7 of the Florida Administrative Code, the City of Florida City will extend appointment and retention preference for certain eligible positions to any eligible veteran or spouse under the code. If you are claiming veterans preference, please be sure to complete the military section of the employment application and attach a copy of the DD214 form with your application. Preference cannot be given to applicants that do not submit the required documentation with employment application. 

Employment Application Process

Applicants considered for employment must complete all pre-employment requirements established by the City of Florida City.  Applicants must submit a completed City of Florida City application for employment. Applications must include the position title to be considered and will only be accepted when there are vacant positions posted.  Resumes can be attached only with a completed application. Resumes submitted alone will not be considered. A new application must be submitted each time an applicant applies for a posted position. The City of Florida City Police Department seeks qualified men and women who desire to serve their community as a Reserve Police Officer. The Reserve Police Officer assists the Police Department in a variety of assignments including conducting patrol and surveillance in assigned areas, reporting unusual and/or criminal activity, monitoring City Parks, assisting with accident scene traffic control, providing support for Police Special Events and other duties to assist the community and Department on a voluntary basis.  


Education and Experience Required

•Must be at least 19 years of age

•Certified Law Enforcement Officer

•High School Diploma/ GED

•Valid driver’s license

•Must be a United States citizen

•Eyesight must be 20/50 each eye, separately without corrective lenses of any kind,  

including contact lenses.  With glasses each eye should be corrected to 20/30.  Depth and color perception must be within normal limits. 

Per Florida Statute 943.13, applicants must not have been convicted of any felony nor misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Applicants with convictions for driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages or narcotics will be automatically disqualified. Criminal history may disqualify applicants.


 Minimum Requirements:

 All applicants must satisfy the following criteria to be considered for appointment:

·         Physical Agility and Vision Test

·         Background investigation including criminal records check

·         Fingerprint Check

·         Polygraph Examination (At the candidate's expense, providing the screening results are favorable, the fee will be reimbursed)

The City of Florida City Police Department is seeking applicants for full and part-time Communications Officer (C/O Dispatcher) positions.  The Communication Officer receives calls on the City's 911 system, both for emergencies and non-emergencies. For non-emergency calls, provides information, answers questions, takes messages, and/or refers caller to appropriate staff; contacts various other departments as needed to resolve problems. For emergency calls, obtains information from callers and determines the appropriate agency to respond; contacts and dispatches appropriate agency; provides agency with information needed to respond and to ensure personnel/officer safety.  Position requires constant contact with the public in stressful situations that require the ability to remain calm, think clearly, use good judgment, and have clear, understandable speaking skills.

 Essential Job Functions:

Answers 911 emergency phones lines and non-emergency lines; obtains necessary information about emergencies or complaints; directs police officers in the field via two-way radio and relays emergency information and pertinent data.
Operates a Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD) to maintain accurate dispatch records; transmits relevant information to field officers as requested. Maintains communication logs and records; monitors closed circuit television equipment; updates and maintains various databases in the CAD system; various office duties as assigned by the Supervisor. 

 Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED required; related experience with computer aided dispatch systems in a public safety position preferred.
General knowledge of office procedures such as filing and records maintenance; typing skills, computer skills in Microsoft Office applications; ability to read, interpret and apply operating manuals and other reference materials.
Must speak clearly and concisely; ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions under stress; ability to effectively communicate with and elicit information from distraught and irate citizens; ability to coordinate a number of activities at the same time under intense stress.  Must be able to work a variety of shifts as assigned, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.  Must be able to pass background and drug screening. 


 Bilingual- English/Spanish preferred. 

Full and part-time positions available.  $10.9896 per hour.
