Community Redevelopment Agency

General Information

The Florida City Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), a dependent special district of the City of Florida City, was created jointly by the City and Miami-Dade County in 1995 for the purpose of addressing the redevelopment needs of a defined area within City limits, with duties and powers defined in Chapter 163, Part III of the Florida Statutes. CRA boundaries were expanded in 2009 and again in 2020, following the adoption of a Restated Inter-Local Agreement with the County. This Agreement also extended the life of the Agency until June 1, 2055. The CRA focuses on the eradication of slum and blight conditions in the district and encourages the development of affordable and workforce housing. It provides infrastructure support through street upgrades, sidewalks, water and sewer improvements and landscaping. The Agency provides economic development assistance and business retention through improvement grants and vocational training programs. It encourages community development with parks improvements and support to cultural and historic assets. Public safety is enhanced through Agency support for Community Policing by funding officers assigned primarily within CRA boundaries.

The CRA meets on an as-needed basis in the City Commission’s Chambers. The CRA Board consists of the Mayor and City Commissioners plus two members from the community and our County Commissioner, or his/her designate. The Agency has an Executive Director and the City Finance Director and City Attorney serve those roles for the CRA, as well.
